Budget 2026 builds the classroom before fixing the paycheck.
If there’s one clear signal from the Union Budget this year, it’s that the creator economy has finally crossed the threshold from a cultural trend to an economic category. By placing creators and the AVGC ecosystem within the broader “Orange Economy,” the government has delivered something creators have long sought: institutional recognition. But recognition, in this case, is forward-looking.
By prioritising long-term capability creation over present-day income stability, the Budget makes a deliberate choice - structure first, monetisation later. In many ways, this mirrors where India’s creator economy stands today: recognised, growing, yet still informal at its core. The open question is how long individual creators can be expected to bridge that gap on their own.
